DistriPress General Assembly 2023 – Meeting Minutes
Summary
DistriPress held a General Assembly at the 2023 Seville Congress on Monday 25 September.
Representatives from more than 80 member companies joined the assembly and a report of the activity of DistriPress was presented by President, Tyler Brûlé.
Members voted to accept the Annual reports/accounts for the last three financial years and reappointed the external auditors for the Association. WAN-IFRA made a presentation to members which was followed by a General Assembly vote on whether to proceed to contract stage for a merger with DistriPress. Members voted to proceed to next stage which is now being worked on by the Executive Committee.

Possible Futures in a Fragmenting World
This report looks at the global future for the distribution of Newspapers & Magazines (N&M), but with additional references to the Book sector, which is a significant category for many DistriPress members. It is based on a range of research sources, as well as a survey of DistriPress members undertaken in June / July 2023. This generated a high 23% response rate across all types of DistriPress membership (newspaper & magazine publishers, wholesalers & distributors, retailers and service providers) from 23 countries, representing every region around the world.

We have witnessed in recent years a boom of Artificial Intelligence applications across all industries driven by scientific breakthroughs, increases in computing power and the availability of massive troves of data. Given the lightning speed of development, it is often difficult to make sense of what AI can and cannot do for your line of work and what AI’s most impactful contributions could look like.
In this talk, we aim to shed light on the impact of recent advancements in AI for the Press industry, with a focus on Press distribution. Stemming from personal experience and in-depth knowledge of the field, we will provide insights on the current state of developments and offer blueprints for a future where AI can work to your advantage.

The first report, “Data-Driven Supply in Newspapers & Magazines”, looked at how data is being used to drive new business opportunities, as traditional supply chains rapidly morph into data networks. Data is changing everything. Whilst it is closing down old ways of doing things, it is opening up new activities and business services. This second report takes a step back to look at the global future for the distribution of Newspapers & Magazines (N&M). It is based on a range of research sources, as well as a survey of DistriPress members undertaken in July 2022. This generated a high 31% response rate across all types of DistriPress membership, from 26 countries in every region.
